ATTORNEY DEAN C. SCHNELLER

Attorney Dean Schneller has been successfully representing North Country clients since 2008.  As one of the premier attorneys in Clinton and Essex Counties, his practice is focused on state and federal criminal defense, real estate, personal injury and civil litigation, wills and estates, environmental, and zoning law.


His office is located in the historic 1802 Charles Platt House located at 98 Boynton Avenue in the City of Plattsburgh.


Since 2014 he has served as Corporation Counsel for the City of Plattsburgh.  In this role, he represents the City of Plattsburgh, the Mayor, the Common Council, the Planning Board, the Zoning Board of Appeals and all City department managers in a variety of municipal, environmental, litigation, and government matters.  He also serves as the Town Attorney for the Town of Black Brook and the Town of Saranac.


In 2016, Attorney Schneller was retained as the Corporation Counsel for The Development Corporation , the preeminent economic and industrial developer for Clinton County.


He is also the attorney for the Clinton County Health Department for their enforcement and administrative proceedings.


In addition to his municipal practice, Mr. Schneller is an experienced Criminal Defense,  Civil Litigation and Real Estate attorney.


Attorney Schneller strives to be the best criminal defense attorney in Clinton and Essex Counties.  He has won felony jury trials and successfully obtained dismissals of felony and misdemeanor charges through written motions and unmatched advocacy.  He is an aggresive DWI defense attorney and maintains an intimate familiarity with the constantly evolving DWI laws in NY state.   He also represents clients in the Northern District of New York Federal Court who have been charged with illegal immigration and drug distribution conspiracies.


Mr. Schneller is an experienced personal injury and civil litigation attorney.  In his civil litigation and personal injury practice, Mr. Schneller has successfully obtained sizable judgments and negotiated numerous other settlements on behalf of his clients.  He is well versed in the rules of civil procedure and will utilize his skills to effectively resolve any personal injury claim, commercial matter, boundary line dispute, or construction issue.


Attorney Schneller is an experienced environmental and real estate attorney.  He represents banks, sellers, and purchasers in a variety of residential and commercial real estate transactions. He also represents North Country farmers and Adirondack land-owners in enforcement proceedings involving the DEC, the APA and local zoning boards.


Attorney Schneller will also guide you through the estate process and will help you draft your Will, Power of Attorney and Health Care Proxy.


In 2007 he graduated with Honors from SUNY Buffalo Law School.  After law school he served as the confidential Judicial Clerk with the Vermont Environmental Court, a statewide appellate court with jurisdiction over land use appeals and environmental permit appeals.  From 2008 through 2014 he was an attorney in the Plattsburgh office of a prominent Albany-based firm where he gained immense litigation experience prior to founding his own firm.


Attorney Schneller regularly appears in County and Supreme Court in Clinton, Essex, and Franklin Counties; town and city courts throughout Clinton and Essex Counties, the Northern District of New York Federal Court in Plattsburgh, Albany and Syracuse, and the Appellate Division Third Department in Albany.   Mr. Schneller is appointed to the  Federal Court's NDNY's Criminal Justice Act panel.  He is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the Clinton County Bar Association and the Essex County Bar Association.


Mr. Schneller is the former Vice-President/Board Member of the Lake Champlain Chapter of Trout Unlimited ; is a former Board Member of the Clinton County Water Quality Committee; and is the Co-Founder, Vice-President, and Board Member of the Adirondack Powder Skier Association, Inc.
